I ruined my favorite t-shirt and decided to share with you how I turned it into a purse. This video tutorial has complete step by step instructions. Enjoy!
@lizethvega5 no, you don’t have to use duct tape. i guess you could just sew the two t-shirt panels together and make a floppy purse instead. i just used the duct tape cause it makes the purse very stiff and strong. but if you are going to just sew the two panels together, you may want to just make the straps out of ribbon or more t-shirt material and just sew them onto the purse. just keep in mind that the purse won’t be very strong so be careful what you put in it.
@MaryAndMaggs yes, you’ll be surprised how well the staples hold up. I recommend covering the staples with strips of more duct tape so you don’t snag items or your hands when you reach into your purse. I forgot to mention that part in the video. also, if you used book rings like in my tutorial, I recommend putting super glue where the book rings open so they won’t open again. When I made mine, if i put too much stuff in my purse the book rings would open up. I’m glad you both made one!
My sis and I each made one of these tonight. Our backs are killing, but they look really cool! Do the staples hold very well? Thanks for the helpful video! Very neat idea
This is a great video! Super clear & easy to understand (and not unnecessarily long or boring)–PERFECT! I absolutely LOVE the clasp idea–such a good (& easy) idea! Can’t wait to try it out. (I have some purses with no clasp or way to close them that I’m going to try the clasp idea out on.) Awesome idea & video!
@BabieLici thanks! glad you like it! i’ll be making some to sell in my etsy store. of course, certain modifications will be made to make it stronger and more durable.
The purse is surprisingly strong! i carry a ton of stuff in mine and it’s holding out just fine. I suggest when you attach the book rings, put a dab of super glue where the ring closes and let dry overnight. thats what i did and i haven’t had any problems. also, instead of stapling the panels together, you can hand stitch them together. if you decide to sew them together using a sewing machine, be sure to use a leather needle. a regular one would break. good luck!
Nice idea! …especially for people like me that are pretty bad at sewing ^.^ but is the bag really “strong” enough to carry things in it? anyway 5***** for the idea & the look!
